So Beautiful

about

To celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary, my wife's birthday and Valentines Day all at once, I created this song and gave it to her on February 13th, 2010.

I love writing about people I care about. And certainly the case for my wife. Here are a few thoughts that come to mind as I read through the lyrics.

MaryAnne always brings me coffee in the morning. One day she triggered a memory when we first started dating. Early in the morning she showed up with two Starbucks vanilla lattes. It was raining out. And although she had no umbrella, she had the biggest smile on her face. I think that was the first moment I knew our relationship was headed somewhere great. She was wet and dint care. I knew I could take her anywhere.

After we got married, we went to Jamaica on vacation. We took a boat ride to some diving cliffs near Negril. Suddenly a torrential downpour started. There we were getting completed soaked by warm tropical water. So we opened two Red Stripes, drinking beers in the rain, laughing and smiling. Great rain memories.

The impetus to writing this song happened when our first daughter Marissa turned four. She suggested I write a song about "Mom". I asked her to name it for me. And so that's how the name So Beautiful came about.

To honor these memories, I wanted to make a rockin' rainy day love song that we could both appreciate.

When MaryAnne turned 40, (Marissa was 10), I decided to produce the song in the studio. I had Marissa sing background vocals (she was 9 at the time - her first studio vocal recording). The session drummer is Matt Ochoa, also drummer for The Dirty Heads, a great reggae rock band. Love the drums on this track. Lewis Richards of 17th Street Recording produced the song and played all other instruments on this track.

Fast forward to today, we have two amazing daughters. In two years and 8 years our daughters will be in college. Im trying a creative experiment to see if music can support my girls college ambitions. The proceeds from any song downloads will help to cover college expenses.

lyrics

Walking down the street that day
Stomping through the pouring rain
There she was smiling
With no umbrella no pain

She said she liked
Raindrops on her face
I bet I could take her anyplace
Hurry now, oh
No time to waste

I think you are
So wonderful as you are
I think you are So Beautiful as you are

Chorus
The sun came out when I met you
I love everything about you
The stars come out at night with you
What would I do without you
In a storm you're my safe passage
You find the light you ride the tide
You taught me how to dream again
I hope these rainy days will never end

We got hitched in San Celemente
Where the waves rolled in the love was plenty
Not a cloud in the sky that day
We set out on this great journey
Jamaica rain and blue Hawaii
The world is ours now
Im still spinning

I know you are
So wonderful as you are
I know you are
So beautiful as you are

Chorus
The sun came out when I met you
I love everything about you
The stars come out at night with you
What would I do without you
In a storm you're my safe passage
You find the light you ride the tide
You taught me how to dream again
I hope these rainy days will never end
Gotta love the rain

Then our bundle of joy came along
At four she said Dad let's make a song
"And what do we call it" I asked her
She said "How 'bout So Beautiful"

Then the lightning and thunder came
She said "Don't worry Dad, I'm not afraid"
I can't wait for it to rain again
I Cant wait for it to rain

You are so wonderful as you are so beautiful
So beautiful, so...

Walkin' down the street today
Stompin' through the pouring rain
Here we are smiling
With nu umbrella, no pain

about

Jimmy Wendt Los Angeles, California

Always driven by music, I started pursuing a passion for songwriting later in life. There is something magical about the progression of a song. I tend to start with lyrics and over time a melody will manifest itself. Once in the studio, witnessing a song come to life is an incredible feeling. Enjoy! Open to working with other artists & brands. Proceeds support my girls' college funds. ... more
